The Moroccan Tourist Office and the Ministry of Tourism have worked a lot on the regulations concerning tourist establishments in recent months.
We hope to see the first new implementing decrees come out soon: new classifications among guest houses (charming houses, riads, pensions, etc.) but also a legal framework for houses with fewer than 4 bedrooms that are rented exclusively via short-term rental contracts. We hope that the owners of these exclusively rented riads will soon be able to pay tourist taxes and declare their residents to the police via a police notebook, just as guest houses that have an official classification already do.
An audit system is already in place to help guest house owners see things clearly: people, professionals in the sector designated by the tourist office, are starting to go around the traditional accommodations that wish to do so, to help them know in which category they will be classified and what standards they must meet.
At the same time, the guesthouse associations of Morocco have just created their national federation.
